Hopi Ear Candling
Ear Candling is a technique that dates back to Ancient Egypt. It is used to achieve physical, psychological and subtle effects by gently warming the ear canal. A linen tube, impregnated with essential oils, honey and beeswax, is lit then carefully inserted into the outer ear. It is held in place for the duration of the treatment.
As the 'candle' burns it slowly releases the oils which are absorbed into the bloodstream to take effect on the surrounding area. The smoke is drawn down to massage the eardrum like sound waves, sending vibrations into the middle ear, helping to rebalance the pressure within. The warm air softens and loosens any earwax aiding the natural process of elimination by the body.
It is beneficial to head and ear complaints and in cases where massage is not desired it can bring inner peace and comfort. Some uses are:
- sinusitis, glue ear
- congestion headaches
- tinitus
- pressure changes, eg swimming, flying
